Ride Along

I spent several years in an attempt to get this shot of Common Loon chicks riding on their mothers back. They tend to due this for several reasons including getting warm after swimming and protection from possible predators and this behaviour tends to last for only a week or so then they may rarely hop a ride along with mom. I would be out on the lake in my small wooden boat before sunrise most mornings floating along with the loon family and they slowly became quite comfortable with my presence. Those years of trying to get the shot payed off this past June in the early morning light. One of the more memorable moments in my photography adventures.
